Benfica confirms Djuricic swoop

The Serbian will be linking up with a host of compatriots in the Portuguese capital after sealing a move from Heerenveen on a five-year deal
Benfica has confirmed the signing of Filip Djuricic from Heerenveen on a five-year deal.

The 21-year-old moved to the Eredivisie outfit in 2010 from Radnicki Obrenovac and was a key member of Marco van Basten's side as it finished eighth in the league in 2012-13.

However, the attacking midfielder has elected to make the move to Lisbon, where he will link up with fellow Serbs Miralem Sulejmani, Lazar Markovic and Nemanja Matic, whom he consulted about the club.

"I've known Matic since I was a boy because we played together from a young age," he told Benfica TV.

"Matic told me I can adapt to Portugal and Portuguese football. That helped in my decision."

Djuricic has represented Serbia on 11 occasions, scoring four goals in the process.
