Villas-Boas: Tottenham good enough to attract big players

The Spurs boss believes that his side is still capable of landing its summer targets despite missing out on Champions League qualification to Arsenal on the final day.

Andre Villas-Boas is adamant that Tottenham will still be able to attract big players despite missing out on Champions League qualification to Arsenal.

Spurs finished the 2012-13 Premier League campaign in fifth after beating Sunderland 1-0 at White Hart Lane on the last day, with north London rival Arsenal downing Newcastle by the same scoreline to safeguard fourth spot.

The Portuguese is unworried, however, by the prospect of Europa League football turning away the club's transfer targets this summer.

"Tottenham is a wonderful club which continues to attract big players like we did this summer," Villas-Boas told BBC Sport. "The market is extensive. You have talent everywhere in the world and you just have to be smart to get the best talent out."

Despite missing out on the top four, the Spurs boss insists that the club's campaign must been seen as a success, arguing: "We've been extremely competitive and I think we can only do it better next season.

"We have had a very good season. We have pushed two clubs that are used to titles to that fourth spot and third spot all of the way and I think we can make it better next season."
