Gomez nets four in Bayern comeback

Bongarts

The attacker played his first match since his injury on Tuesday, but it remains to be seen whether he will feature against Nurnberg at the weekend.

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has received some promising news on the injury front as prolific striker Mario Gomez has resumed match action again after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an ankle problem.

The 27-year-old made his comeback in Tuesday's friendly game versus fifth-tier Falke Markt Schwaben, and featured for the full 90 minutes as he helped Bayern to a 6-0 win with four goals of his own.

Gomez sustained an ankle injury at the start of the season and had to undergo surgery to get rid of the issue.

Despite his four goals on Tuesday, the Germany international was not getting carried away following his fine display.

"I’ve not been away for six years. We shouldn’t read too much into this. They weren’t the toughest opponents," the striker was quoted as saying on the Bayern website.

Gomez will be hoping to return to competitive action at the weekend away against Nurnberg, but is unsure as to whether head coach Jupp Heynckes will include him in the matchday squad.

"There's no decision as yet about his availability for Saturday," Heynckes said inconclusively.

Bayern currently sits top of the Bundesliga table with 30 points from 11 games.
