thumbnail Hello,

The former Real Madrid player, now at Valencia, has revealed his team's first aim for the season will be securing a win against Los Merengues on the first Liga match day.

Valencia midfielder Sergio Canales has revealed that his side is gunning for victory when it travels to play Jose Mourinho's side in round one of the new Liga season.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at the Mestalla and only this week had the move made permanent.

The player expressed his delight at finalizing the move and expressed how he hopes to repay his new club for the faith it has shown in him despite him spending much of last term on the sidelines with injury.

"I'm very happy, Valencia made a very big effort to sign me and I hope to get back to my best in return," he was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

The Spaniard is now looking ahead to the new season and has made clear that this first objective is to overcome Real Madrid.

"We have had a good preseason so far and are well prepared for the new season where we hope we will be very competitive," he said. "But our first goal is to win at the Santiago Bernabeu."

The former Spain Under-21 made just 11 appearances last season due to injury and is hoping that this season he will be able to feature more for Los Che.

"I hope that this season we have better luck with injuries as we want to have a good campaign and fulfill all our goals," he concluded.

Madrid hosts Valencia on Aug. 19.
