thumbnail Hello,

The influential midfielder has resumed pitch work with the rest of his teammates after missing the Blaugrana's last two league games due to a calf injury.

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has received some encouraging news from the treatment room as midfielder Xavi has resumed squad training after spending the past week sidelined with injury.

The Spain international picked up a calf problem in Barcelona's 2-2 Champions League semifinal draw against Chelsea last week in the second leg, and was initially expected to be out of action for around two weeks.

However, Barcelona has now confirmed on its official website that the 32-year-old has already set foot on the training ground again as he nears an early comeback.

It appears unlikely that Xavi will be included in the Barca squad for Saturday's Liga match at home against Espanyol, but the playmaker is likely to regain full match fitness for the upcoming Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao.

The Catalans lock horns with the Europa League finalist on May 25 at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid.
