Real Madrid defender Pepe has expressed his dismay with the way he has been treated by the media, and has likened his portrayal in the press to that of a murderer.
The powerful defender has received a fair share of criticism for his aggressive style of play, in particular when Los Blancos face bitter rivals Barcelona, and the 28-year-old feels that the Spain's reporters have been too harsh on him.
"The press has portrayed me like I am a murderer," said Pepe in an interview with Canal+.
"For me the most important thing is to defend the colors of Madrid though. When I go out on the streets, plenty of people still show that they like me."
The center back then went on to discuss the future of head coach Jose Mourinho, who has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, and stated that the players are confident their trainer is going nowhere.
"The coach has an ongoing contract and is part of Madrid, just like the players. We are confident that he will remain head coach here," the Portugal international stated adamantly.
The capital-city side beat Levante 4-2 on Sunday evening to extend their lead over Barcelona at the top of the Primera Division table to 10 points.
