Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno has played down speculation linking Jose Mourinho with a summer departure from the club.
The 48-year-old had been tipped to vacate his post and return to the Premier League at the end of the season, born from a culmination of incidents including a reported bust-up with defender Sergio Ramos and continued failed attempts to defeat arch-rival Barcelona.
However, after the capital giant's 2-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday, Butragueno took the time to clarify Mourinho's position. The director insisted Mourinho's job is not on the line and the club is extremely satisfied with his work to date.
"We are not aware [of any truth to rumors regarding Mourinho leaving Real Madrid]. We are very happy with him and I believe he will stay at the club," Butragueno told Canal Plus. "Every week rumors appear, and as always; they do not affect us."
Real Madrid finishes the week still top of the Primera Division table, seven points ahead of second-placed Barcelona.
