Franz Beckenbauer: Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben and Jerome Boateng can't play together on the right

The German legend has voiced his opinion that the versatile defender's style of play does not suit the Dutch winger, and Rafina would be a better choice at full back

Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has stated his belief that Jerome Boateng and Arjen Robben are unable play together on the right wing, and believes Rafinha would be a better partner for the Dutchman.

Boateng joined Bayern from Manchester City at the start of the 2011-12 campaign with the objective of becoming one of the two center backs at FCB.

However, he has often been used as right-back, and Beckenbauer is of the opinion that it would benefit Robben if he had Rafinha playing behind him rather than Boateng.

"The two of them really can't play together. Boateng always passes the ball in the other direction. This upsets Robben though as he always wants the ball," Beckenbauer said to Sky90.

"They're not a good combination in my opinion. I think that Rafinha and Robben would suit each other much better."

Bayern Munich was beaten 3-1 by Borussia Monchengladbach last Friday in their first match after the winter break.
