Genoa has confirmed on its official website that the club has sacked coach Alberto Malesani and replaced him with Pasquale Marino.
The Rossoblu are currently a respectable 10th in the Serie A standings but suffered a demoralizing 6-1 loss to Napoli at the San Paolo on Wednesday.
Genoa decided on a change of leadership after the game and has dismissed Malesani, who only arrived in Liguria over the summer after doing a good job in difficult circumstances at Bologna last season.
It had been rumored that former Juventus boss Gigi Del Neri was in the running to take over but Genoa has instead turned to Marino, who has signed a contract which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2013.
Marino, who will be officially presented to the media on Dec. 29, has been out of the game since being fired by Parma in April but the 49-year-old retains a reputation as one of the more innovative coaches in the Italian game.
