Diego Simeone has revealed that he would love to be the next coach of Atletico Madrid.
"Hopefully I can be the next coach of Atletico,” the former Rojiblancos midfielder told Fox Sports. “I do think there is a possibility and I hope that this situation arises.
Gregorio Manzano is currently in charge of Atletico but the former Sevilla boss is expected to be fired during the winter break.
Atletico’s preferred replacement is reportedly Rafael Benitez but Simeone, who has parted company with Racing Club, is also said to be on the club’s shortlist and the Argentine has now confirmed his desire to return to the Vicente Calderon.
"They [Atletico] are aware of my situation and I think there is a chance to go there.”
Manzano has guided Atletico into the last 32 of the Europa League, but the club have struggled in La Liga and is currently 10th after last weekend’s dismal home loss to Real Betis.
