The Cottagers welcome the Premier League champion to Craven Cottage on Wednesday, having drawn with the Red Devils last year after securing a 3-0 victory the season before.
Martin Jol has insisted his Fulham side has the ability to take something away from Wednesday’s clash against Manchester United.
Fulham has not lost in the last two home fixtures against the Red Devils, winning 3-0 in the 2009-10 campaign and picking up a draw last season, and Jol is hoping his side can once again pick up a result against Sir Alex Ferugson's men.
“We’ve had a 3-0 win and a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in recent seasons so we seem to do well against them at the Cottage,” Jol explained to the club’s official website. "Manchester United have that extra quality and you can’t give them space. If you make a mistake they will punish you. We have to play to our strengths on Wednesday night and stop them exploiting their qualities.”
The Dutch manager has also drawn confidence from the Cottager’s recent performances, and he believes his side is finally beginning to gel.
“The balance is a bit better now, we have to improve and do better and exploit the talents of players like Mousa Dembele and Bryan Ruiz," he told the site. “We have to play to their strengths and play to the other strikers. Andrew Johnson did well on Saturday and the balance was good."
The manager also thinks that his team has enough talent to push on and move into the top half of the table.
“It’s about playing well, scoring goals and getting the points and we did that on Saturday," he said in the same interview. "If you’ve got the players we’ve got I think we can go for a very good position in the League this year. I’m happy with my squad. We’ve got terrific players in all positions. Maybe we are capable of winning something this year and I think we’ll do better and better. Hopefully we can establish ourselves in the top 10 this season like we did before and improve.”
