The much-coveted teenage playmaker has been recognized after a remarkable year in which he inspired his club to the Bundesliga title and cemented his place in the Germany squadBorussia Dortmund prodigy Mario Gotze has had the title of the best young player in Europe bestowed upon him by Italian newspaper Tuttosport.
Only players under the age of 21 are eligible for the ‘Golden Boy’ award, with Mario Balotelli, Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney among those to have previously won the accolade.
"It is a great thing and a great honor for Mario that he should be classified in this list of great names,” Gotze’s agent, Volker Struth, told Express.
Gotze, who is just 19 and yet already capped 12 times by Germany, played an integral role in Dortmund’s stirring Bundesliga success last season.
