Goal.com World Player of the Week: Balazs Dzsudzsak - PSV & Hungary

Join Goal.com for another global player worthy of recognition.

Welcome to Goal.com's regular feature: Goal.com World Player of the Week. Each week our worldwide team of editors will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com International, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday. It won't necessarily be the best player in the world - at least not usually - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...

Goal.com World Player of the Week #14: BALAZS DZSUDZSAK
Club: PSV Eindhoven
Country: Hungary
Age: 22
Role: Winger
Achievement: Man of the match in PSV's win over rivals Ajax in the Eredivisie.

Goal.com's 14th World Player of the Week starred in a high-pressure encounter and produced goals aplenty. Goal.com Netherlands's Tommy Vaneldik takes up the story...

"I was at Eindhoven on Sunday to watch the top match between PSV and Ajax, and the left winger from Hungary was the absolute man of the match.

"Among other things, he hammered a free kick from 30 metres into the top corner in the first half, produced a brilliant action just after the start of the second half which was the assist for the 2-2 equaliser from Otman Bakkal, and curled a free kick from the right side of the field into the far corner for the 3-2.

"On a day that Ajax's much-heralded Luis Suarez did not impress, and other players were busy getting yellow cards, Dzsudzsak was quietly going about his business, and always looking very dangerous with his dribbling and shots from distance."

In the end, PSV prevailed by four goals to three, and it was largely down to the Hungarian.

Congratulations to Balazs Dzsudzsak, our 14th Goal.com World Player of the Week!

Honourable Mentions...
  1. Charlie Davies (Sochaux, France - USA) - A week of being the "winning loser" for the American. First he scored at the Azteca in the USA's loss to Mexico, and then he impressed massively by scoring twice in a narrow loss to league champions Bordeaux in France. It may be zero points on the board in a team sense, but individually he is earning a great deal of respect.
  2. Didier Drogba (Chelsea, England - Ivory Coast) - Without question the man of the match in Chelsea's narrow win over Hull City in the opening weekend of the Premier League. Bustling, physical, and oozing confidence, 'The Drog' is getting back to his best.
  3. Dioko Kaluyituka (TP Mazembe - DR Congo) - Often outshone by other national stars like Tresor Mputu, Kaluyituka showed his true worth with a hat-trick in Mazembe's 5-0 thumping of Zimbabwean side Monomotapa United.
  4. Denilson (Arsenal, England - Brazil) - Arsenal's 6-1 thumping of Everton at Goodison saw the season start off right for the Gunners, while Denilson - derided by some last season - is going from strength to strength.
