Ricki Herbert Overjoyed With New Zealand Point
Ricki Herbert addressed the press in the wake of his New Zealand side bombing out of the Confederations Cup alongside Iraq.
The elated Kiwis had every right to celebrate, however, as they had just earned their first point in an international tournament.
"We've never come to an international tournament and gotten a point," coach Ricki Herbert told the press after the match.
"This was another milestone for the country. I think we proved a few doubters wrong."
Herbert was offended by one member of the press asking why the team celebrated as though they had won the match, refusing the answer the reporter's question.
"I find that question disrespectful," the All Whites boss went on.
"We've been playing a long time, a country small as we are, the resources that we have, to be honest I won't even answer that question."
New Zealand goalkeeper Glen Moss proved something of a hero as his lightning reflexes saved the Kiwis on more than one occasion.
"Glen's a quality goalkeeper," admitted Herbert.
"His form right through the tournament has been first class. I think he has the potential to go further.
"He was there when we needed him tonight."
