Confederations Cup: Injury Forces Egypt's Zidan Out Of USA Clash
One of the unlikely stars of the Confederations Cup will miss Sunday's match against the USA.
Borussia Dortmund striker Mohamed Zidan will not play any part in Sunday's Group B match against the United States of America, after picking up a hamstring injury, team officials have announced.
Zidan, who scored twice when Egypt fell 4-3 to Brazil in their opening group match, was replaced by Ahmed Eid in the second-half of Egypt's stunning 1-0 Confederations Cup victory over Italy as a result of this injury.
"Zidan will not be able to play against the US," Egypt assistant coach Shawki Gharib said on Egyptian television.
"The hamstring injury he sustained against Italy is not serious, but it will prevent him from taking part in Sunday's match."
However, full-backs Ahmed Fathi and Sayed Moawad, who put in superb performances against Italy, were also injured against the world champions but Gharib said they should be ready to face the US.
"Fathi trained with us today, he has no problems," Hassan Shehata's assistant said.
"The medical team told us Moawad was 95% certain to recover in time for the match."
