Mexicans Abroad: Chicharito Debuts

Goal.com's Andrea Martinez looks at how the foreign-based Mexicans did on the weekend of Aug. 14-16.

After months of hype and excitement and anticipation, Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez made history.

When the young Mexican international stepped onto the pitch at Old Trafford on Monday, Hernandez became the first Mexican to ever play for the famed Red Devils. Hernandez came on in the second half and stepped into what promises to be an exciting and prosperous career in the England Premiership.

SPAIN

Andres Guardado (Deportivo La Coruña)- No activity this week.Next: FC Parma 8/21

Jonathan Dos Santos (Barcelona/Barca Atletic)
- Jonathan Dos Santos started and played 65 minutes of the first leg against Sevilla in the Spanish Super Cup. Barcelona lost the game 3-1. Next: Sevilla FC 8/21 (2nd Leg) Spanish Super Cup.
 
ENGLAND

Giovani Dos Santos (Tottenham Hotspurs)
- Dos Santos made it on to the field in the 77th minute in the 0-0 draw against Manchester City. Next: @ Young Boys 8/17 Champions League; @ Stoke City 8/21 Premier League

Carlos Vela (Arsenal)
- Vela was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool. Next: Blackpool 8/21 Premier League.


Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez (Manchester United)
- ‘Chicharito’ made his debut for Manchester United in the Premier League by coming on in the 62nd minute and helped start the play for the third goal by recovering the ball. Next: @Fulham 8/22 Premier League.

Pablo Barrera (West Ham)
- Barrera made his Premier League debut for the second half against Aston Villa. Unfortunately for West Ham, the game ended in a 3-0 loss. Next: Bolton Wanderers 8/21 Premier League.

SCOTLAND

Efrain Juarez (Celtic)
- Juarez debuted in the Scottish Premier League in the 89th minute in the 1-0 win over Inverness. Next: FC Utrecht 8/19 UEFA Europa League; St. Mirren 8/22 Scottish Premier League.

NETHERLANDS

Carlos Salcido (PSV)
- Salcido did not have any participation in the game against De Graafschap.  PSV won 6-0 without the defender. Next: Next: @ Sibir Novosibirsk 8/19 UEFA Europa League; AZ Alkmaar 8/22 Eredivisie.

Francisco ‘Maza’ Rodriguez (PSV)

Hector Moreno (AZ Alkmaar)

UNITED STATES

Rafael Marquez (New York)
- Marquez started and played 71 minutes in New York's 1-0 loss to LA Galaxy. The game was Marquez's first at his new home stadium, Red Bull Arena. Next: @ Toronto FC 8/21

Nery Castillo (Chicago)
- Castillo had a weekend off as Chicago did not play on the weekend. Next: New England 8/18, @ Houston 8/21

Mariano Trujillo (Chivas USA)
- Trujillo started and played 89 minutes in Chivas' 0-0 draw against Seattle. Trujillo picked up a red card late in the game following a brief altercation with Seattle's Leo Gonzalez - Trujillo threw an elbow at Gonzalez. Next: Trujillo will be suspended for Chivas' 8/21 game at FC Dallas and will likely be eligible to return 8/29 against DC United.

Rodolfo Espinoza (Chivas USA)
- Espinoza played 90 minutes in a wide midfielder role for Chivas in the 0-0 draw against Seattle. Next: @ FC Dallas 8/21

Martin Vasquez (Chivas USA)
- Vasquez expressed disappointment after Chivas' 0-0 draw against Seattle and said his team needs to start playing desperate and winning games at home if the playoffs are to happen. Next: @ FC Dallas 8/21

Carlos de los Cobos (Chicago)

COLOMBIA

Mario Garcia (Boyaca Chico FC)
- Garcia left the field in the 14th minute with an injury in the game against La Equidad that ended in a 0-0 draw. Next: @ Deportes Tolima 8/22 Futbol Profesional Colombiano.
