Goalkeeper Liborio Sanchez, midfielders Candido Ramirez and Jorge Hernandez as well as striker Alan Pulido were announced as being on the waiting list should one of the 18 players selected fall victim to injury or any other circumstance preventing them from competing.
All four players had participated previously for the U-23 team, with Queretaro goalkeeper Sanchez notably losing his starting spot in the Toulon tournament to Chivas goalkeeper Jose Antonio Rodriguez after shaky outings.
Tigres striker Alan Pulido was surprisingly left out of the list only months after finishing the CONCACAF Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament as the top scorer along with Chivas' Marco Fabian.
Santos Laguna's Candido Ramirez and Pachuca's Hernandez had also formed part of the underage group at various points, with Ramirez impressing in Toulon as the youngest member of a Mexican team that took home the gold in the prestigious tournament.
Mexico kicks off its Olympic campaign on July 26 against South Korea at the St. James' Park in Newcastle.
