thumbnail Hello,

The Mexico boss said his team deserved to be booed by the Mexican fans after an uninspiring win on Friday night.

Mexico got its World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start on Friday night, but it wasn't in inspiring fashion.

A 3-1 win over Guyana left the fans frustrated with the final scoreline and brought out the boo-birds before the match was over.

After the game, Mexico manager Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre said the fans were right for reacting poorly to the outcome.

"The fans are right [to boo]," he told reporters after the match. "They're right because they came here to watch us win and we owed them tonight."

Guyana coach Jamaal Shabazz wasn't as disappointed with his team's showing, and gave credit to Mexico for simply being the superior team.

"We respected Mexico, we know of their superiority not just in CONCACAF but in the world," he said.

"Our team defended itself quite well and it was tough for Mexican strikers to break through."

Mexico will be in action again on Tuesday with a tricky away fixture against El Salvador.
