Joan Laporta: Barcelona Will Do Whatever Is Needed To Keep Lionel Messi Happy
Barcelona are set to keep their star player happy...
Marca
Joan Laporta has confirmed that Barcelona are preparing a new deal to make Lionel Messi the highest paid player at the club.
The Blaugrana president described the Argentinian as a "leader", noting that the youngster should be treated as one, beginning with his basic salary and buy-out clause.
According to reports on Monday, Messi's buy-out clause will double to €300 million, while his wages will move ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's.
“There’s a very good relation between all parties. They know that we want the player to feel happy here, he’s a great player, a home grown lad and we’re proud to have him, the best player in the world with us at the club. The negotiations are coming along fine," Laporta told the club's official website.
“Barca will always do whatever is needed to keep him happy here and we know that he has a real commitment to Barca, which has to be reflected in how we treat him at all levels. The club will always honour that commitment and love that he has for Barca.
“Messi has become a leader this season and that has been possible thanks to the skill of his manager and the fact that the staff have worked to build a great squad."
