The Welshman believes it is inappropriate to discuss individuals linked to his club.

Despite the combined acquisitions of Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz, Manchester City's spending is set to continue - if reports are to be believed - as Argentinean international Carlos Tevez, together with Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, have also been continuously linked with the Citizens, but manager Mark Hughes is refusing to tell journalists more than they already know.

Speaking at a press conference designed to unveil former Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz, the conversation inevitably turned to City's transfer policy, and Hughes said, "I'd much rather talk about players once they are at the club, but we have lodged a bid for Samuel Eto'o, that was reported.

"I don't think there is any update from what you know from yesterday. He will certainly help us and I have a lot of respect for him."

On other targets, namely Tevez, a player available for transfer after the conclusion of his two-year loan spell at Manchester United, Hughes added, "Carlos Tevez is another I have huge admiration for.

"We'll see what happens. At this stage it's very early. There is always frustration when deals cannot come through early," he said nodding toward Roque, whose former club only allowed negotiations to go through after the seventh time of City asking.
