Real Madrid To Appoint Manuel Pellegrini As Coach
Manuel Pellegrini will take over as the new coach of Real Madrid this week after a deal with Villarreal was reached.
Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Manuel Pellegrini as their new coach for €4 million and the deal will be made official on Tuesday, according to Villarreal's general manager.
José Manuel Llaneza has confirmed that the two clubs have struck a deal that will see the Chilean replace Juande Ramos at the Bernabeu and be Florentino Perez's first big announcement as president.
Rumours had persisted that Pellegrini was the choice of Jorge Valdano, who will also rejoin Madrid this week, and negotiations have been ongoing in recent days.
"It is logical that between two clubs that maintain good relations that a deal was going to be closed," Llaneza is quoted as saying by AS.
"I can state that a provisional agreement has been reached between two clubs that are friendly and even more now that they have a new president.
"It is, of course, a blow to Villarreal and is a difficult and complicated time for us, but now we will start working on our task of finding a new coach."
When asked if he felt Pellegrini would try and take any players from Villarreal to Real Madrid with him, Llaneza explained that he would be concerned if he did not.
"A great coach is leaving the club through the front door and now we hope that we can find another great coach to replace him."
Llaneza made the announcement after spending half-an-hour talking to Pellegrini, who returned to the Villarreal training ground in order to say goodbye to the staff.
Pellegrini will replace Juande Ramos at the helm after Perez opted not to renew the former Tottenham Hotspur manager's six-month contract at the Bernabeu.
