The French star has not assured his spot with Perez but has hinted strongly that he will return to Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane has refused to confirm whether or not he will be joining Florentino Perez's Real Madrid presidential campaign but has stated that he does want to help his former team.

The French legend has been widely reported to be returning to the club where he was so successful as a player, but this time as an ambassador.

Speaking on the same day that Perez officially announced his campaign though, Zidane said he is not alongside him, not yet anyway.

"I am convinced that the people that will work with him will be the right ones. I am always in contact with him, not just about the elections, and even though he has not asked me, I am always here to help because I want to be with Real Madrid," AS report him as telling the press.

Zidane went on to say that he believes the return of Perez "is very important for Real Madrid" and thinks he can turn the club around.

"He is going to change the image of Madrid so that it is back to what it was and what it should be. There are many things to do and to work on," he explained.

The former French midfielder also spoke about the success of Barcelona, who last night won their first trophy of the season by winning the Copa del Rey.

"It hurts me to see Barcelona doing so well. They are playing as well as ever," he concluded.
