Aguero out of Barcelona showdown with hamstring injury

City's striker is likely to be out of action for a month following a hamstring injury sustained at Tottenham and is set to miss out on the Champion League clash against Barcelona.
Manchester City has been handed a severe blow ahead of the Champions League showdown with Barcelona with the news that Sergio Aguero is likely to miss a month with a hamstring injury.

The Argentina striker, who has scored six goals in his last five games since returning from a calf injury he picked up in December’s win over Arsenal, tweaked his hamstring shortly after opening the scoring in Wednesday’s 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

City, which returned to the top of the Premier League in midweek, is due to face Tata Martino’s side in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at the Etihad Stadium on Feb. 18, with the return fixture at Camp Nou scheduled for March 12.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said: "[Samir] Nasri continues treatment. Javi Garcia and Kun Aguero are injured. [The] doctor has seen Aguero and he will be out for a month.

"It will be difficult because he is a top player for us but we have the players to replace him. He has just come back from injury and Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko can replace him."
