Report: John Terry set to miss Chelsea's Champions League tie against Napoli after failing to overcome knee injury
The captain is also now expected to miss England's friendly against Netherlands on Feb. 29 after missing the club's previous four games.
Italian publication Gazzetta initially claimed to have found a team sheet left by under-pressure Blues boss Ander Villas-Boas in the club’s hotel which pointed at the captain’s inclusion in Tuesday tie.
However, new reports have now surfaced that counters that assertion, with the 31-year-old reportedly failing to overcome a knee injury that has ruled him out of the side’s last four games.
Villas-Boas had rated the chances of the defender’s inclusion as “50-50” on Monday, but it now appears he is likely to also miss the upcoming England friendly against the Netherlands on Feb. 29.
The leaked plans also stated that Daniel Sturridge is to lead the line up front, in place of Didier Drogba and out-of-sorts Fernando Torres, with support coming in the form of Ramires and Juan Mata.
Another surprise decision outlined, is the inclusion of Gary Cahill, with supposedly Ashley Cole is set to return from injury to fill the left-back spot.
Reported lineup: Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole; Meireles, Essien, Lampard; Ramires, Mata, Sturridge.
