Player Ratings: Anderlecht 1-3 Lyon
Lyon cruised to victory over Anderlecht tonight to secure an 8-2 aggregate win and a place in the Champions League group stages. Goal.com rates the performers.
ANDERLECHT
Schollen – 7.0 – Performed well for Anderlecht and kept the score respectable at times. Couldn’t do much about the three goals but made good saves from Delgado in the first half and Bastos in the second.
Wasilewski – 6.0 – Probably Anderlecht’s best defender on the night. Solid enough in defense and did make an effort to support their attacking efforts.
Juhasz – 5.5 – Performed better than his central defensive colleague Mazuch, although it was still a sub-standard display. Was all at sea as Lisandro beat a crowd of defenders for his second goal of the night.
Mazuch – 4.0 – A shocking error for the first goal as he gifted Lisandro and Lyon the lead with a senseless pass. It didn’t get much better with his part in the second goal either and while he and his side did improve after the break, by then the damage had been done.
Deschacht – 5.5 – Responsible for giving Reveillere far too much space in the build up to the second goal. Defended a lot better as the game progressed.
Gillet – 6.5 – Missed Anderlecht’s only chance of the first half when he headed over the crossbar. Got involved in the game much more after the break and had more of an impact as he tried to link up with Suarez.
Polak – 4.5 – Carelessly gave the ball away inside his own half, which led to Lisandro scoring an excellent third goal for Lyon. Substituted at half-time after an ineffective performance.
Sare – 5.5 – Tried to make his presence felt with a few tough tackles but didn’t have much influence on the game when in possession.
Boussoufa – 5.5 – Squandered a great chance when through on goal in the latter stages. He did have some good moments but went missing when his side really needed him and should do better considering he is his side’s main creative force.
Chatelle – 5.0 – Anonymous in the first half as Lyon dictated proceedings. Came into it a bit more after the break but didn’t do enough to impress his manager, who replaced him with Reynaldo on 67 minutes.
De Sutter – 5.0 – Had a thankless task in the first half as the lone striker in a side doing nothing going forward. Worked hard but failed to make an impact. Replaced at the break.
Substitutes
Suarez – 7.5 – Did really well coming off the substitutes’ bench. Won a penalty and converted it himself and did not give the Lyon defence a moment’s peace. After scoring in the first leg too, why wasn’t he starting the match?
Biglia – 7.0 – Linked with a move away from the club, which perhaps explained his absence from the starting line-up. Showed his quality after coming on at half-time with Suarez – a good all-round midfield display.
Reynaldo – 5.5 – Did a lot of running but didn’t see enough of the ball to have a big influence.
LYON
Lloris – 6.5 – Didn’t have anything of note to do in the first half. Was involved more after the break, making one important late save from Boussoufa and the goal he conceded was a penalty.
Reveillere – 7.0 – Created the second goal with excellent run down the right and cut-back to Lisandro. In defense he did what was required of him, which wasn’t much for the majority of the game.
Bodmer – 6.5 – It was a strong, solid and composed performance in defense from Bodmer, but didn’t have to do a huge amount of defending which denies him a higher rating.
Cris – 5.5 – Untroubled in the first half but was caught out by Suarez for the penalty, which was correctly awarded. Made to work hard by the Argentinean for the rest of the match.
Cissokho – 6.5 – A typical lively performance from Cissokho who got himself up and down the left-hand side for the full 90 minutes. Looks the part at left-back.
Toulalan – 5.5 – Toulalan was generally neat and tidy, but it wasn’t his finest night in a Lyon shirt as he struggled to make a real impact. Received a booking for a foul on Suarez and was replaced late on.
Kallstrom – 7.0 – Worked very hard throughout the game and impressed in midfield for Lyon. Had a good cross for Makoun in the first half, who should have scored.
Makoun – 6.5 – Had more of a license to get forward than he is used to and made some telling passes in attacking areas. Missed an excellent headed chance with the score at 0-0.
Bastos – 7.0 – Played well and was a real threat on the wing. Forced the home goalkeeper into two good second half saves and was usually involved in Lyon’s attacks.
Delgado – 6.5 – Forced Schollen into an excellent save in the opening period and was an important link between midfield and attack. Faded slightly as the game progressed.
Lisandro – 9.0 – Scored an excellent hat-trick to seal the tie for Lyon. His first goal was gifted to him on a plate, but his second was well taken under pressure from the home defense. The third was a fantastic curling effort from the edge of the box – an excellent night for the striker. Substituted on the hour mark to save his legs.
Substitutes
Belfodil – 6.0 – Replaced Lisandro and did quite well during his half an hour on the pitch. Set up Bastos for a late chance and did well in possession when Lyon were on the counter-attack.
Gonalons – 5.5 – Was beaten too easily by Boussoufa towards the end but fortunately for him it didn’t prove costly. Valuable Champions League experience.
Pjanic – n/a – Came on for the last ten minutes, but didn’t have enough time to make any impact on proceedings.
