Atletico Madrid Coach Happy To Play Panathinaikos In Champions League
Los Colchoneros have had a good Champions League draw, according to their coach...
Abel Resino has admitted that he is pleased that Atletico Madrid have been drawn against Panathinaikos and avoided both Arsenal and Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League play-offs.
Los Colchoneros' coach did not want the English or the French giants, so when his side were paired with Henk ten Cate's team in Friday's draw he was happy.
"Panathinaikos were one of the teams that we wanted," Marca quoted him as saying.
"I never like to say games are easy, but of all the teams that we could have been drawn against, they were one team that we wanted ahead of others.
"Nevertheless, in Greece they will put us under pressure and the atmosphere will be intense, but we have the quality to cope with all that.
"It was clear that there were two sides that were stronger. We did not want Arsenal or Lyon, but after that anyone would have done us.”
Having avoided the teams he did not want, Resino is now looking ahead to the side that they have been drawn against, noting that he will do his homework thoroughly.
"Now we will study Panathinaikos. We know that they have signed Djibril Cisse and that they have a good midfield with one Spanish player," he continued.
"We will look for all the information we can and prepare ourselves for the tie."
