Henry Reflects On Barcelona's Champions League Triumph
With the achievements of the season just starting to settle in, Thierry Henry has spoken of Barca's European success.
Barcelona's French forward has spoken of his relief at having finally won the Champions League.
Henry lost the Champions League final with Arsenal in 2006, co-incidentally to Barcelona, and it remained the one major trophy he had not won. Having rectified that, Henry told L'Equipe, "I have wanted to win it for ages, and finally I have achieved it."
"I have removed an enormous weight off my shoulders...the last five minutes of the match were the longest of my life."
Henry then paid tribute to coach Pep Guardiola, continuing, "This season was extraordinary, and the Champions League was the perfect ending."
"We have earned it all. I want to thank Pep, because he convinced me to stay here last summer, and I am happy that I did so."
Finally, Henry gave an example of his leadership role in the team, stating, "When we were celebrating winning the World Cup and I was just 20, Marcel (Desailly) pulled me aside and said, 'Do you understand what we have achieved?"
"While we were celebrating in Rome, I went and told Marc Muniesa and Bojan the same thing."
Henry has had a spectacular season at the Camp Nou, scoring 25 goals.
