Sir Alex: Two More European Cups And I'll Retire
The Scottish tactician has revealed he will step down as Red Devils manager if they win the Champions League this year and next.
Alex Ferguson has stated that he will retire as manager of Manchester United should he lead the club to the Champions League trophy in 2009 and 2010.
The Red Devils won the competition last season for the second time during the Scot's reign - they also triumphed in 1999 - and the third time in the club's history.
Although United are closing in on Liverpool's record of 18 top-flight domestic titles, they are some way behind the likes of Real Madrid, Milan and the Merseyside outfit in terms of European Cups won.
The 67-year-old has revealed that he hopes to turn that statistic around and, should he do so, he will step down from the top job at Old Trafford.
" I'd love the club to win more European trophies than they have done and I think I've made this point a few times over the years," Ferguson told CNN.
"I don't think we've won the number we should have won. There have been years when we've been unlucky and years we've been disappointed, and there've been years when we've thrown games away, and that sort of gives a kaleidoscope of what football's like.
"If we could win a couple more European trophies I then would definitely quit."
