Goal.com WPS Power Rankings: Week 14

Until FC Gold Pride loses, it'll keep the No. 1 spot locked down. Meanwhile, the Chicago Red Stars moved up with other teams' struggles; and the Boston Breakers play is rewarded with a big jump in this week's Goal.com WPS Power Rankings.

1. FC Gold Pride - Don't put anything into the recent one-goal digression over the last three Gold Pride games (all wins). What is more precisely an indicator of this team is the three straight games with a two-goal scorer. (previous: 1)

2. Chicago Red Stars - A week off for the red-hot Red Stars, and they lost no ground on any playoff teams. Everything is lining up nicely for this club. By week's end, they could be in second place, with a road tilt against Atlanta on Wednesday before hosting Boston on Sunday. (3)

3. Boston Breakers - Taking nothing away from the Gold Pride, Boston is the hottest team in Women's Professional Soccer. While the Pride are doing it with its superstar strikers, the Breakers are winning games as a team, led by surprising play of Jordan Angeli. (6)

4. Philadelphia Independence - They are still holding onto the second spot in the WPS table, but Philadelphia isn't doing anything to justify that spot of late. The Independence have lost all momentum it gained going into the All-Star Game, losing both its games since. (2)

5. Sky Blue FC - Things seem to be unraveling for the reigning champs. But fans of Sky Blue FC may have thought that last year, having three coaches en route to its championship. This year, it's all about the injuries. Those, which led to poor, inconsistent play, led to the dismissal of Pauliina Miettinen as coach. Maybe THIS will turn it around. (3)

6. Washington Freedom - Being without Abby Wambach the past two games made it difficult for the Freedom -- but other teams have adjusted without its stars. Washington is forgetting what winning feels like, too, having not left the field victorious since May 30. Its next opportunity: Saturday at home vs. Gold Pride. Eke! (5)

7. Atlanta Beat - Atlanta got its second win of the year this week, beating the struggling Sky Blue FC. Even with the win, the expansion Beat still sit in last, two full wins behind the next-closest team in the standings, Boston. (7)
