VIDEO: Defeated Sol Take Pride In Effort
The Los Angeles squad generated most of their chances on goal after losing a player to a controversial red card.
CARSON, Calif. -- It was a valiant attempt on the part of the Los Angeles Sol to try to overcome both a goal deficit and a player disadvantage, but it fell short in the championship match of Women's Professional Soccer.
The LA team had won the regular season with games to spare and only had to win one last match to claim the title, but loose marking on the play that led to Sky Blue FC's early lead had the team chasing the game.
Only ten minutes later, the most successful squad in the league looked doomed, as referee Kari Seitz judged that Allison Faulk was the last player back when she brought down Natasha Kai.
Though the Sol fought back to create some chances on goal, none came to fruition. Though they were able to prevent any more goals against them, they never found the equalizer and lost the championship.
Coach Abner Rogers, midfielder Shannon Boxx and defender Brittany Bock spoke after the match to the media.
