The American forward's debut with his new club will be delayed after he picked up a knee injury in a friendly.American forward Terrence Boyd will miss the start of the 2.Bundesliga season with a partially torn ACL, his club Red Bull Leipzig announced Monday.
Boyd suffered a non-contact injury during the team's friendly against Queens Park Rangers. He played 45 minutes in the friendly and later went to see knee specialist Dr. Ulrich Boenisch. It was Boyd's fourth match with the club during a strong preseason that had seen him score against Sonnenhof Großaspach and Paris-Saint Germain.
The team says the 23-year-old forward will be out for at least 10 weeks, with the player relaying the same information to fans on his Twitter account.
@TBoyd91 Hey Terrence, sorry to hear the bad news!! Stay positive and we get you back even stronger!!— Jürgen Klinsmann (@J_Klinsmann) July 28, 2014
Boyd had been named to Klinsmann's provisional World Cup roster but didn't make the final 23-man team for Brazil. The injury will keep him from being called for a September friendly against Czech Republic, with another match against European opposition also likely to take place during the same FIFA window.
