Steven Fletcher and Matt Phillips make returns to Gordon Strachan's team for November friendlies against the United States and Norway.
Gordon Strachan has called up 25 players for November friendlies against the United States and Norway, the Scottish FA announced Monday.
Nine players who got the call featured in last year's friendly with the U.S., a 5-1 win for the Americans in Jacksonville, Fla.
For Scotland, the November friendlies will start the process of building toward 2018 after the team finished fourth in its World Cup qualifying group. Scotland hasn't made the World Cup since the 1998 competition in France.
The USA is preparing for Brazil after topping its own qualification group and manager Jurgen Klinsmann says the matches will help weigh the quality of some players against strong, if not elite, international opposition.
“Our approach to the games against Scotland and Austria is that they are World Cup preparation matches,” Klinsmann said to ussoccer.com. “That means we have to look at bringing the best available players. We will be following the situations in Europe and MLS carefully. We plan on taking the strongest squad possible for these games.”
Scotland is also bringing a strong team with Premier League forwards Steven Fletcher and Matt Phillips making returns to the team.
