The American star's streak of All-Star selections has been extended to 13 after he was called upon to step in for his hurt club teammate.
When it appeared that Donovan's MLS All-Star team selection streak would end at 12 years, the all-time leading scorer in U.S. Soccer history has been called upon to replace fellow Galaxy Designated Player Robbie Keane for next Wednesday's showcase against AS Roma at Sporting Park.
Donovan, who has posted five goals and seven assists in this month's CONCACAF Gold Cup, has now made an MLS All-Star team in every season which he has played in the league, although this selection comes at the expense of Keane, who suffered a left hip flexor strain against the Portland Timbers on July 13 and leads the Galaxy with seven goals and eight assists.
In 12 MLS games this season, Donovan has three goals and six assists. He missed the first three games of the season while completing his self-imposed hiatus before rejoining the Galaxy and making his season debut on March 30 against Toronto FC.
