thumbnail Hello,

Guatemala has not scored a goal against the United States in a World Cup qualifier since 2000.

Guatemala will try to bounce back in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after dropping a 2-1 decision to Jamaica on Friday.

The Chapines will face off against the United States in Guatemala City trying to end almost three decades of American dominance against the Central American nation.

1983's Pan American Games in Caracas, Venezuela set the scene for the last Guatemalan victory in the head-to-head series, in a match that ended 3-0 in favor of the Azul y Blanco.

World Cup qualifiers have not been kind to Guatemala even when home field advantage has been applicable against the Americans. August of 2008 was the last time the two nations met in this capacity, with a Carlos Bocanegra goal giving the USA a 1-0 victory in Guatemala City.

Even more troubling for Guatemala has been the inability to generate offense against the United States.

It's been 12 years since the Central Americans have celebrated a goal against the USA in a World Cup qualifier, when both teams netted once in their July 2000 match at the Mateo Flores stadium in their campaign towards the 2002 games held in Korea and Japan.
