Philadelphia Union forward Freddy Adu has been named captain of the USA U-23 team that is currently preparing for the Olympic qualification tournament in Nashville, Tenn. The tournament starts March 22. SI.com's Grant Wahl first reported the news.
Adu, 22, is currently in his second season with Philadelphia and has been in and out of the fold with the National Team, at all levels. He's made 17 appearances for the senior squad, scoring two goals, while only six at the U-23 level, netting four times.
The USA will first take on Cuba on the 22nd, then Canada on March 24 and on March 26 it will take on El Salvador. If the team, led by Caleb Porter, makes it to the semifinal round, it will play in Kansas City.
