After trying to deliberately injure another player, Schalke 04's Jermaine Jones will likely have some time to think over his mistake.

Schalke's head coach Horst Held revealed that the U.S. international will receive a six-game suspension for purposely stepping on Borussia Mönchengladbach star Marco Reus' broken toe in a German Cup tie on Dec. 21. Held believes that the Jones' mistake doesn't warrant the midfielder's lengthy suspension and suggested that the club will appeal.

"We cannot accept this verdict," Held told German publication Kicker.

Based on video replays, it is unlikely that Jones' appeal will go through. The incident took place during a stoppage of play. The 29-year-old American midfielder walked up to Reus as he was talking to a referee and stepped on the player's previously-injured foot.

If Jones serves the full suspension, it could prove costly to his club as he would be out until March 1. Schalke is in a tight race for one of the Bundesliga's Champions League qualification spots and currently sits third with 34 points, just a point above Gladbach.
