Poll Results: Clint Dempsey Should Start As A Striker In The World Cup
Voters want the Fulham man to move up top.
Just hours after making his comeback from injury for Fulham in the final minutes against Juventus, Goal.com voters claimed Clint Dempsey should start in the attack next to Jozy Altidore in the World Cup.
Charlie Davies looked to have forced himself into the starting role until a brutal car accident put the pacy striker's fitness in jeopardy.
Dempsey has popped up with some clutch goals for the United States in the past, including one in the 2006 World Cup and three in the 2009 Confederations Cup. A move up to the forward line would likely carve out space on the right for Stuart Holden to join the starting XI.
Surprisingly, more voters suggested a change of formation (nearly 20%) than any other striker (Brian Ching, Conor Casey, or Robbie Findley) could muster. Although Bob Bradley has experimented with a 4-3-3 with Landon Donovan and Dempsey flanking a lone striker in the past, though he's unlikely to tamper with his solid 4-4-2 come June.
