USA Versus Honduras: What Went Wrong?
The USA didn't start 2010 off on a good note, going a man and a goal down early on in the match versus Honduras. Things did not get better from that point, either.
By Andrea Canales
CARSON, Calif. The United States national team was trying out a number of young players versus Honduras, but it was a World Cup veteran, Jimmy Conrad, who took a risk with a slight foul in the box. It was the entire team who paid the price as they found themselves a man and a penalty kick goal down while the match was still young.
Though the USA team was more active in their attacking play even while a man down after the goal, their inexperience showed when they got caught on a counterattack by Honduras for the second goal.
"Honduras has more experience on the international level and it shows," former USA coach Bruce Arena said at halftime of the match.
However, opinions will no doubt vary in exactly where this USA squad went wrong.
Some will question, for example, Bradley's decision to ignore young talent such as Omar Gonzalez. The Galaxy Rookie of the Year was left off the game-day roster.
Despite individual moments of good play, the American team as a whole did not seem on the same page.
