USA U-20s Fail To Advance To WC Knockout Stages
Some third placed teams in the group stages advance in the U-20 World Cup, but the U.S. will not be one of them.
The United States U-20 team failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the U-20 World Cup.
After finishing the group stages with three points and a negative three goal differential, the U.S. still had a chance of advancing based on other results. However, fellow CONCACAF representative Costa Rica earned the necessary goal differential to advance instead of the U.S.
Head coach Thomas Rongen and his team will return before the knockout round, a first for the U.S. since 1987.
