VIDEO: Bob Bradley On Holding A Lead

USMNT coach Bob Bradley spoke about how to hold a lead, something his team has failed to do on a couple of recent occasions.

PARK CITY, Utah- World Cup qualifying can be a grind for players and manager, especially with a race as tight as the one shaping up in CONCACAF. Currently four teams sit separated by just three points, and the U.S. National Team is dangerously close to being pushed out of an automatic birth in South Africa.

Following a loss to Mexico August 12 the Red White and Blue are looking to rebound and put some distance between themselves and that fourth spot. With their next two matches pitting Bob Bradley's squad against the bottom two of the Hexagonal, Saturday's match against El Salvador in Utah and next week's tie against Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain look to be the perfect remedy to the up and down campaign that has plagued the U.S. through the first six game.

But Bradley thinks his squad will be ready and that having the extra training time afforded by a double fixture date should play to his team's favor.

"In a single fixture date you don't really have time to asses sharpness and fitness," he said after today's training session in Park City, Utah. "The only thing you do when (the team) arrives is prepare them, in terms or recovery and travel and everything, to play."

This time around the team has already gathered and will have time to train together on a number of occasions before stepping on the field against El Salvador, something that should help Bradley and his staff in determining who is ready to go on Saturday night.

"When you have a double fixture date and you have the days of training, certainly in terms of getting some training under your belt and seeing where guys stand, it's a better situation," he said.

One thing that troubled the U.S. throughout the summer was the inability to hold a lead. Three times over the last three months the Red White and Blue have taken a lead only to watch it evaporate and eventually walk away losing the match. Bradley knows that his team must correct that problem if they want to be successful and Goal.com has video of the manager explaining what they will need to do to keep those same problems from coming up in the future.
