Bradley Parses Through Difficulties Of Azteca Matchup
The match against Mexico in World Cup qualifying will be difficult for the United States for many reasons, including the start time and lack of preparation days. U.S. coach Bob Bradley waded through all of them.
MIAMI--The United States held a training session today in Miami in preparation for Wednesday’s qualifier against Mexico and head coach Bob Bradley addressed the media after a short morning practice session.
Bradley stated that Azteca was the toughest venue to play away from home in CONCACAF. When asked about preparing for a game in such a tough venue, Bradley said, "We always talk about the different factors in the game so that we're prepared properly. When you're preparing for a game in Azteca, the thing that we focus on is that it's a challenge, but it's an exciting challenge."
"It was their decision," Bradley said regarding the odd start time, 3pm local time. "Obviously, they're going to try to find ways that they think help them. So, I think the decision on their part was based upon that's a time that plays to their advantage."
As controversy in Europe swells about the timing of this FIFA fixture date, Bradley discussed the challenges of calling a team into action for single midweek fixture.
"There's always many factors. Again, single-fixture dates make everything extra difficult, because you don't have that full week of training to really look at everybody. We do our homework. We're constantly checking on players, and watching games. The fact that this has been preseason for some of them makes it a little more difficult, but I think we have a good group."
