U.S. Coach Bob Bradley Disappointed With Italy Loss

After the disappointment of a loss to Italy, the U.S. team looks to the future.

U.S. head coach Bob Bradley admitted that the loss to Italy in the team's opening match of the 2009 Confederations Cup was disappointing, but maintained that the team would move on.

Despite going down to 10 men after Ricardo Clark clattered into Gennaro Gattuso, a Landon Donovan penalty put the Yanks ahead in the first half.

"It's disappointing." Bradley said."To play against a team like Italy and be down a man takes extra strong efforts on a lot of parts, and I thought that part was good. After their goal, I thought we did a very good job for a period of time of still being organized and finding some opportunities going forward."

Taking that lead into the half, the U.S. looked like it might nab something from the game. The team hadn't lost in 95 games when leading by halftime. However, New Jersey born Giuseppe Rossi came on as a substitute to turn the game on its head with a second half brace.

"At the end, we are taking more chances because we are still trying to find a way to get the equalizer," said Bradley. "Unfortunately we couldn't do better with a few long range shots and corners in that period of time. They did well to finish the game. It's only the first game of the group, and now we move on."

Eventually, Italy scored three in the second half, condemning the Americans to a 3-1 loss. Bradley's men will play Brazil on Thursday. With Carlos Bocanegra out injured, Landon Donovan wore the captain's armband.

"Our goal has to be to get something, which is no easy task," Donovan said of the match against Brazil. "We have to give everything now and hope we get something out of the game."
