American midfielder Brek Shea is searching for a new club to secure regular playing time, and Premier League side Southampton could be his new destination, sources tell Goal USA.
English Premier League side Southampton is in talks to bring Shea on via a loan move, sources confirmed to Goal USA on Thursday.
Shea, who was called up on Thursday for the U.S. national team's upcoming friendly against the Czech Republic, has struggled to work his way up the depth chart at Stoke City under manager Mark Hughes. He has yet to dress for Stoke City in any of the Potters’ matches this season, and is a safe bet to move via loan in the coming weeks.

Sources tell Goal USA that clubs in Germany and the Netherlands are still in the mix for his services, but Southampton could prove an enticing option for the American winger given the club’s recent roster turnover and need for fresh reinforcements.
Southampton boasts Serbian Dusan Tadic on the left wing, who was purchased this summer to replace Adam Lallana, who was sold to Liverpool, but Shea could be seen as cover for Tadic, who has struggled to adapt since his move to the Premier League. Shea could also help provide cover for right winger Steven Davis.
Acquired by Stoke City in a $4 million transfer from MLS side FC Dallas in January of 2013, Shea spent part of last season on loan with then-English Football League Championship club Barnsley, and while several clubs currently in the Championship have expressed interest in his services, Shea will be looking for a move to the Bundesliga or Eredivisie if he cannot finalize a loan to Southampton.
