The U.S. national team defender-midfielder is set to leave Hoffenheim on a free transfer and will be under contract with his new club until 2018.Fabian Johnson's impending change of scenery has been a foregone conclusion for weeks. Now the destination is known as well.
The U.S. national team defender-midfielder has agreed to a deal to stay in the Bundesliga and join Borussia Monchengladbach this summer, the club announced Monday.
Johnson earlier this month informed Hoffenheim that he did not plan to renew his deal, which expires this summer. The 26-year-old will be under contract with Monchengladbach until 2018.
Typically used as a fullback or winger, Johnson started nine World Cup qualifying matches for the USA this cycle and figures to be a key piece of Jurgen Klinsmann's World Cup squad. He has made 15 league appearances (11 starts) for Hoffenheim this season.
