Julian Green makes professional debut in Champions League

Julian Green, an 18-year-old eligible to represent the USA or Germany in international play, made his first-team debut Wednesday in Bayern Munich's Champions League win.
The fervor surrounding Julian Green's national team status isn't likely to die down any time soon as the 18-year-old made his first team debut with Bayern Munich in the closing moments of its 3-1 Champions League victory against CSKA Moscow.

Green, who is eligible to represent Germany or the United States at the international level, replaced Mario Gotze in the 88th minute of the triumph. He has had a breakout year for Bayern’s reserve side, leading the team with 15 goals in 18 appearances, and was signed to a contract with the club earlier this month.

The attacker was set for a call from Jurgen Klinsmann to join the USA squad for November friendlies against Scotland and Austria but the manager and player decided to delay that process. Green represented Germany at the UEFA U-19 Championships and would have to file a one-time switch should he decide to put on the red, white and blue.
