The U.S. international striker finally got off the mark for Sunderland, scoring in Capital One Cup action, and then suffered a hamstring injury

Boyd back in action and on the mark
Terrence Boyd returned from injury on Sunday, playing a great game while scoring a huge equalizer as Rapid Vienna drew 1-1 against Red Bull Salzburg. However, Zulte had one final push and scored in the 90th minute to settle the scoreline.
Everton draws again as questions loom
The Merseyside outfit drew for the third straight time on Saturday, leaving Cardiff with a 0-0 stalemate. Tim Howard started in goal and made one save as Everton dominated possession. However, with only three points so far this season, and both Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines rumored to be leaving for Manchester United, the outlook for the Toffees is not strong. Earlier in the week, Howard got the day off as Everton advanced in the Capital One Cup by defeating Stevenage 2-1.
Shea and Cameron both start in Stoke victories

The defender was solid, doing a nice job of stunting the West Ham attack, which failed to get one shot on goal. In the end, Jermaine Pennant notched the winner in the 82nd minute to give Stoke a 1-0 league win.
Friedel starts in European blowout
Brad Friedel started on Thursday and played well as Tottenham dominated Dinamo Tbilsi 3-0 in Europa League action. Tottenham wound up taking the tie with an 8-0 aggregate score. Spurs were powered by Jermain Defoe’s double. On Sunday, Friedel was a spectator as Arsenal defeated Spurs 1-0.

After starting last week, Michael Bradley played a substitute role on Sunday, coming on for the final 18 minutes as Roma defeated Hellas Verona 3-0.
Johannsson cools off
Aron Johannsson’s blazing start came to a halt last week as the striker failed to score. On Friday, despite losing 2-0 to Atromitos, AZ progressed to the group stage of the Europa League. Johannsson started but obviously failed to score. On Sunday, the Icelandic-American came on in the 71st minute but couldn’t make an impact as his team dropped two points late, drawing 1-1 against Vitesse Arnhem.

Jones sent off and subsequently hits the bench
Jermaine Jones started on Tuesday but was shown a red card in the 64th minute after being booked for a second time. Despite the departure, Schalke 04 rallied, scoring twice a man down to defeat PAOK Salonika 3-2 (4-3 aggregate) in the second leg of a Champions League qualifier. On Saturday, Jones did not start but came on for the final 14 minutes as his squad defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-0.
Johnson starts in embarrassing loss
Fabian Johnson started again on Sunday but was blitzed early and often as Hoffenheim could not handle the attack of Vfb Stuttgart. The hosts scored three goals inside the first 28 minutes and ultimately won by a 6-2 score.
Brooks starts but plays poorly in defeat
