Boyd caps season with goal in Rapid Vienna's finale

The young American forward completed his first season of first-team action with his 17th goal in all competitions, carrying individual momentum to U.S. national team camp.
Terrence Boyd finished his first league season of first-team action the same way it began -- by scoring a goal.

The 22-year-old U.S. national team forward tallied Rapid Vienna's final goal of the season in a 3-0 victory over Ried on Sunday, bookending his Austrian Bundesliga campaign in style. He opened his first season in Austria, after moving from Borussia Dortmund's reserve side, with a two-goal outing against Wacker Innsbruck back on July 21.

Boyd, who set up the first of Louis Schaub's two goals, scored one of his own in the 88th minute to seal a victory that capped Rapid Vienna's third-place finish. The club will play in the UEFA Europa League next season, finishing well off the pace set by Austria Vienna and Salzburg for the league's two UEFA Champions League qualifying round berths.

Boyd finished his season with 17 goals in all competitions. His 13 goals in league play were sixth-most in the Bundesliga and second-most on his club next to Deni Alar's 15. He now turns his attention to the international stage, as he'll join the U.S. national team ahead of its friendly against Belgium in Cleveland on Wednesday that serves as a tune-up for next month's three World Cup qualifiers.
