The win propelled Spurs up to 61 points, just two points behind Arsenal for third place. With just a few games remaining, the fight for a Champions League spot is still going strong for Spurs.
Howard notches clean sheet in gritty week
Tim Howard played well on Tuesday, keeping his seventh clean sheet of the season as Everton drew 0-0 with Arsenal. Howard made two saves in a relatively strong showing from the Toffees. On Saturday, the Merseyside outfit stumbled, losing 1-0 at Sunderland. Howard made three saves, notable halting a Sebastian Larsson free kick but was beaten in first half stoppage time by a brilliant Stephane Sessegnon strike after a poor Everton giveaway. The loss puts the club’s European aspirations in peril.
Bradley solid for Roma
Michael Bradley started on Wednesday and played the entire contest as Roma prevaied 3-2 over Inter, advancing to the Coppa Italia final in the process. It will be an all-Roman clash as Bradley's side is set to take on Lazio in late May. On Sunday, Bradley played the final 30 minutes and tested the keeper a few times as Roma drew 1-1 with Pescara.
Jones return as sub
Jermaine Jones returned from his injury on Saturday, coming on for the final 26 minutes as Schalke lost 1-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt. The loss has Schalke teetering in the fourth place, leading fifth place SC Freiburg by just one point.
Altidore picks up knock in loss
Jozy Altidore played 52 minutes on Saturday, before being forced off the pitch with a minor injury. AZ was defeated 3-1 at home by PSV.
Cameron comes on as sub in victory
Geoff Cameron made an injury time cameo for Stoke on Saturday as his squad closed out QPR 2-0. The win puts Stoke six points clear of the relegation zone. Brek Shea did not make the game-day roster.
Hoffenheim gets blown out
Fabian Johnson started while Danny Williams was not available on Saturday as Hoffenheim was destroyed 5-0 by Bayer Leverkusen. Hoffenheim continues to struggle at the bottom of the Bundesliga, and is three points off a promotion-relegation playoff spot.
Chandler starts in loss
Timothy Chandler played the first half of Sunday’s game before being removed at the start of the second period as Nurnberg fell 1-0 at home against SpVgg Greuther Furth. Nurnberg was the more aggressive side and deserved at least a share of the spoils for its effort.
Cherundolo starts in another brutal loss
Steve Cherundolo started on Saturday but Hannover was crushed 6-1 at home against Bayern Munich. The defender was removed after 66 minutes.
Kljestan scores in playoff win
Sacha Kljestan scored the final goal for his club on Wednesday as Anderlecht defeated Lokeren 3-0. He uncorked a 23-yard effort in the 37th minute to bury the opposition. It was his first goal since November. On Sunday, Kljestan’s squad lost 2-1 to Zulte-Waregem.
