Bedoya extends stay at Helsingborg until summer

The American midfielder has signed on for another short-term stint with the Swedish side after scoring three goals in 17 games with the club upon his arrival from Rangers.
U.S. international midfielder Alejandro Bedoya will be staying on at Helsingborg after signing a new short-term contract that runs until this summer, the Swedish club announced on its official website.

Bedoya, who completed his initial short-term contract with Helsingborg in the winter, scored three goals in 17 games upon joining the club from Rangers at the end of August. The 25-year-old Bedoya, who participated in the U.S. national team January training camp and entered the USA's 0-0 draw with Canada on Jan. 29 as a second-half substitute, had been training with Helsingborg during its preseason camp in Portugal and played in a friendly earlier this week.

Bedoya scored a bicycle kick goal on his debut and then tallied two goals in the UEFA Europa League against Hannover and FC Twente for Helsingborg, which finished the 2012 season in sixth place in the Allsvenskan table.

The new season does not begin until March 31 when Helsingborg faces Djurgarden, the club of American winger Brian Span. Helsingborg has three Swedish Cup matches prior to the start of the league season, with the first coming on March 3 against Assyriska.
