Howard ships several goals for Everton
Tim Howard made just one save on Wednesday as Everton defeated West Brom. A Leighton Baines double was enough as Everton cruised by 2-1. On Saturday, Howard did not record a save as Aston Villa blitzed the Everton defense en route to an early 3-1 lead. However, the Toffees recovered and finished strong to make it a 3-3 draw. The Merseyside outfit remains planted in fifth place.
Dempsey plays well as Spurs get four points
Clint Dempsey started on Wednesday but left after 70 minutes as Tottenham drew 1-1 against Norwich. Tottenham was down 1-0 for most of the match until Gareth Bale equalized with just 10 minutes remaining. On Sunday against West Brom, Dempsey was extra aggressive, taking five shots, two of which nearly hit the back of the net. However, it was once again Bale who scored the dagger, giving Spurs a 1-0 win in the 67th minute.
Bradley plays well, but Roma's poor run continues
Michael Bradley started on Friday night and nearly scored for Roma, but his club fell 4-2 against Cagliari. The shocking defeat did not bode well for Roma coach Zdenek Zeman, who was fired after the game. The club appointed Aurelio Andreazzoli as the temporary boss. The reason for Zeman's dismissal was obvious, as Roma has slipped to eighth in Serie A and does not look like the title contenders it once was.
Cameron back and Shea aboard for Stoke
Geoff Cameron was back in the lineup last week, starting both games for Stoke. However, the club first drew 2-2 with Wigan on Tuesday before falling to Arsenal 1-0 on Saturday. In acquisition news, Stoke signed former FC Dallas winger Brek Shea for a rumored $3 to $4 million transfer fee.
Villains stuck in relegation zone
Brad Guzan started on Tuesday but made just one save as Aston Villa fell to Newcastle 2-1. The loss dropped Villa even deeper into the relegation zone. On Saturday, the squad rebounded with a 3-3 draw against Everton. Guzan kept five shots out but the Birmingham outfit managed to blow a 3-1 lead late as Everton’s Marouane Fellaini notched two in the final 20 minutes. Eric Lichaj did not play in either game last week.
Jones returns to action
Jermaine Jones returned from his suspension on Saturday and played 81 minutes, but Schalke lost to SpVgg Greuther Furth 2-1. The midfielder played pretty well and was aggressive, taking three shots during the contest.
Hoffenheim back in business
Both Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams were back in action on Saturday for Hoffenheim. Johnson started while Williams came on late as TSG defeated SC Freiburg 2-1. Despite the victory, the team remains deep in the Bundesliga relegation zone.
Edu starts for Bursaspor
